TenCate Polyfelt F filter fabrics are geocomposites, consisting of two layers of mechanically bonded continuous-filament nonwoven made from 100% UV-stabilised polypropylene. One filament layer is designed as a filter, the other as a protection layer preventing mechanical damage to the filter. The optimised opening size and constrictions ensure excellent long-term filter performance.

F filtration geotextiles are particularly suitable in cases where critical soils place high demands on the filter properties of the geotextile, or when high mechanical stresses are expected. F can be used for all filter applications in civil engineering structures, but is especially suitable for cases where bi-directional flow requires special filtration properties, such as coastal protection, dike construction etc.

• High filter stability: Due to the non-woven structure, the hydraulic and mechanical properties do not change significantly under mechanical stress, unlike wovens
• Two layers fulfilling two completely different requirements: high filter performance, and high mechanical resistance
• The continuous filaments of F have an indefinite anchor length, so that they cannot be dissolved from the fibre structure under cyclic mechanical stresses such as wave actions.

Optimum filtration performance by double-layered structure.

The grey layer filters.

The fine filaments of the filter layer provide adequate opening size and homogeneity to achieve a high retention capability for almost all types of soil. At the same time, the danger of clogging is minimised by the optimum number of constrictions, thus ensuring maximum filter stability.

The blue layer protects.

The protection layer increases the mechanical resistance of the filter layer. The filaments are coarser and are more widely spaced. Fine soil particles passing the filter layer are therefore not deposited within the blue layer. The danger of clogging is eliminated, both high water permeability and soil retention capability are guaranteed. Additionally, the mechanically bonded polypropylene continuous filaments withstand the mechanical stresses during installation of the overlying materials - the long term filter performance of the mat is ensured.
