O-Rings can be divided into two main groups. They are used either as a static sealing element or as an energizing element for hydraulic slipper seals and wipers.
O-Rings cover a wide range of applications and are used in all industries in the fields of maintenance and in new applications. The relatively low production costs, ease of installation and use have made the O-Ring the most widely used seal. Practically all liquid and gaseous media can be sealed using one of the many elastomeric O-Rings available. At the Seals-Shop, we offer O-Rings in NBR, EPDM and FKM materials with a hardness range of between 70 and 90 Shore A.
O-Rings are used mainly in static sealing applications:
-
As a radial static seal, e.g. for bushings, covers, pipes, cylinders
-
As an axial static seal, e.g. for flanges, plates, caps
O-Rings in dynamic applications are recommended for use in moderate service conditions only. They are limited by the speed and the pressure against which they are to seal:
-
For low duty sealing of reciprocating pistons, rods, plungers, etc
-
For sealing of slowly pivoting, rotating or spiral movements on shafts, spindles, rotary transmission leadthroughs, etc.
The dimensions of the O-Ring are defined by the inside diameter d1 and the cross section d2 as displayed below in the image.
We offer O-Rigs with a cross sections in the range of 0.8 to 8.4 mm and inside diameters up to 810 mm.
