Ultrasonic sensors use a piezo element to generate acoustic oscillations in a range above 25 kHz, which is beyond the human auditory threshold. The ultrasonic wavelength is in a range of a few centimeters or less. This can measure objects or distances with a high level of precision. Transmitter and receiver can either be produced as separate units (transmitter and receiver type) or one transmitter can be operated jointly as transmitter and receiver (common type).
