“ Pumps with magnetic coupling where special requirements are placed on pumps and sealing systems. ”
Should temperatures up to 250 °C or a leak free seal of the pump from the environment be required, then KRAL pumps with magnetic coupling are the right choice. The liquid pumped has no contact with the atmosphere thereby protecting personnel and the environment. An inspired, cost-saving construction in regards to maintenance.
When pumps with traditional sealing systems don't suffice, KRAL pumps with magnetic coupling come to the rescue. Instead of a mechanical seal, a hermetically sealed containment can made of stainless steel guarantees the seal of the pump from the atmosphere. The torque of the electric motor is transferred to the pump by the magnetic coupling without direct contact. Magnetic couplings work practically maintenance free. When overloaded, the magnetic coupling decouples, i.e., the inside and outside rotor no longer revolve synchronously, and the motor effectively disconnects itself from the pump. As soon as the motor comes to a stand-still, the magnetic field is synchronized and the pump can be restated.
Rare earth magnets were the prerequisite for economical magnetic couplings. With such strong rare earth magnets the containment can size could be reduced. Minimizing the containment can volumes, now made possible, was a real contribution to the cost reduction. Additional improvements to the original design such as a better integration of standard pump brackets and pump pedestals further contributed to cost reduction.
The fundamental advantages of this type of pump are on the one hand the high performance density, i.e., the compact size and on the other hand the continuous and almost pulsation-free flow.
