Test standsAS A SPECIALIST IN CUSTOMIZED MOTOR TEST SYSTEMS (CMTS), MAGTROL HAS DEVELOPED A CUSTOMIZED MOUNTING SYSTEM TO FACILITATE TESTING OF OPEN-FRAME MOTORS, ALSO KNOWN AS «FRAMELESS MOTORS».
FEATURES
The uniqueness of this test bench lies in the type of motors tested, namely open-frame (or frameless) electric motors. This type of motor, consisting of a stator and a rotor without bearings or shafts, is mainly used in a compressor for its heat exchanger or in robotics. Although they have many qualities, frameless motors are difficult to test when not mounted in their final configuration. In the absence of its classic mounting frame, the motor must nevertheless be able to be placed in a physical configuration that will enable it to be tested.
Magtrol now offers a modular solution which not only allows the motor to be positioned, but also, to make the alignment adjustments required for perfect testing. By the means of a slide system, the motor can be moved precisely in all 3 directions. These high-quality slides enable precise manual adjustment, and their mechanical strength ensures the rigidity required for proper testing.
The motor mounting system allows a variety of models to be fitted by means of an adapter ring. This ring can be quickly interchanged and is upgradeable. The entire mounting system is ergonomically designed for rapid motor model changeover.
The mechanical part of the test bench is completed by a WB Series – Eddy-Current dynamometer and a TM 300 Series – Torque Sensor; these two components are essential for closed-loop test sequences. The whole unit is secured by protection doors with safety switches that keep personnel safe from harm and safeguarding process.
An electronic control system, built into a standard 19» cabinet, controls the test bench. The integrated electronics, which include a DSP 7000 Dynamometer Controller and a Yokogawa power analyzer, offer a wide range of measurement options.
Magtrol’s easy-to-use M-TEST Software centralizes system management, enabling the user to quickly define test parameters and sequences (torque, speed, curve, closed/open loop). Generated data can be stored, displayed and printed as tables, graphs or universal data reports, and can easily be imported into a spreadsheet. This enables clear, professional reporting.

Torque sensorsIntroduced in 2019, this latest-generation torque sensor combines high technology, robustness and reliability. It can be easily integrated into motor test benches as well as standard or customized torque measurement systems. Since its launch, it has enjoyed widespread success and approval from measurement professionals. Its excellent price/performance ratio, flexibility and high reliability are much appreciated by our customers.
A direct descendant of the long-renowned TM 300 Series, one of its innovations lies in its dual analog and USB signal outputs, which can be used simultaneously. For example, one channel for data acquisition and the other for closed-loop control of a shaft line.
Depending on the model, the TS 100 Series Torque Transducer incorporates a 360, 400 or 700 PPR (Pulse Per Revolution) encoder for angular resolution down to 0.129° and a reference index of 1 PPR. Encoders with 1000 or 5 000 PPR are available on request for models up to 100 N·m. These further improve angular resolution where necessary, for example in low-speed applications.
The power transmission from the stator to the rotor is provided by a high-frequency rotary transformer with low inertia. An ergonomic display system consisting of three color LEDs continuously inform the user about the operating status of the device. The TORQUE measurement acquisition software is available for free and can be directly downloaded from the Magtrol website. The entire system offers an easy-to-use “Plug & Play” system.
The TS 100 Series Torque Sensors provides measurement up to 200% of its nominal value. With 300% of nominal torque as the overload limit, the TS transducer has the highest overload reserve on the market. Its metrology allows the sensor to reach an accuracy of 0.05% (combined error).
This new range of torque meters strengthens Magtrol’s offering in the torque measurement field, providing an excellent complement to the renowned TM 300 Series (up to 400% overload limit and high-speed versions up to 50 000 rpm), TF 300 Series (Torque Flanged Sensors) and RT Series (Reaction Torque Sensors).
In addition to its activities in the field of torque measurement, Magtrol is also renowned for its Customized Motor Test Systems (CMTS), Hysteresis Brakes and Clutches, Load Measuring Pins as well as Load Cells and Displacement Transducers.

AmplifiersMagtrol’s New PSD Portable Sensor Display is a stand-alone unit powered by either 3 AA batteries or via USB. It is very compact (~160 x 80 x 50 mm) and can be easily carried and used on a civil engineering site, in a research & development office or laboratory, as well as in production shop. Its case is ergonomic, waterproof (IP54) and protected by a rubber shock absorber. It is suitable for any type of strain gauge transducer including a load cell, load pin or reaction torque sensor. The internal amplifier can process a signal range of ±0.3 … 5 mV/V.
The new PSD Portable Display is very flexible and complies with the highest specifications in terms of accuracy (0.01%) and measurement frequency (1600/s). It allows the storage of up to 16 programmable measurement ranges which can be configured either directly on the unit or via its USB interface and dedicated software (included). Multiple force or torque transducers can be connected simultaneously and the data, as well as the minimum or maximum value, can be displayed. The new device is delivered in a protective case allowing for safe and easy transportation. It replaces the old generation GM80 Amplifier.
The PSD is a great complement to all types of strain gauge transducers for which a mobile display is necessary, especially Magtrol’s Anchor Load Cells (HRL Series), Cable Sensors (SK-02), Load Pins (LB Series) and Miniature Load Pins (MB-02 Series) or Reaction Torque Sensors (RT Series).

Torque sensorsWith the introduction of model TS 109 to TS 111 covering the measurement ranges from 20 N·m to 100 N·m, Magtrol is expanding the TS Series Torque Transducer range. Eleven nominal ranges are now available covering measuring ranges from 50 mN·m to 100 N·m. The TS 112 and TS 113 models will also be launched by the end of the year; this will extend the nominal range up to 500 N·m.
The new torque meter offers a dual signal output, analog and USB, which can be used simultaneously. e.g. one channel for data acquisition and the other for closed-loop control of the drive line.
The sensor integrates an encoder (360 resp. 400 pulses per revolution) allowing an angular resolution up to 0.25° and offering a reference index (1 pulse per revolution). Encoders with 1 000 or 5 000 pulses (available on request), further improve the angular resolution if required. The power transmission from the stator to the rotor is provided by a high-frequency rotary transformer with low inertia. A system consisting of three colors LEDs continuously informs the user about the operating status of the device. The TORQUE measurement acquisition software is available free of charge and can be directly downloaded from Magtrol’s Web site. The entire system offers an easy-to-use « Plug & Play » system.
The TS torque transducer provides a measurement of up to 200% of its nominal value. With 300% of the nominal torque as overload limit, the TS is one of the transducers with the highest overload reserve on the market. The first family (8 nominal ranges from 50 mN·m to 10 N·m) was introduced in 2019 and quickly conquered the market. Its excellent price/performance ratio is highly appreciated by customers.
This new range strengthens Magtrol’s torque measurement offering, providing an excellent complement to the TM Series (up to 400% overload limit and high-speed versions up to 50 000 rpm), TF Series (flanged torque transducers) and RT Series (reaction torque transducers). In addition to its activities in torque sensors, the company is well known for its motor test systems, brakes and clutches, load pins as well as load cells and displacement sensors.
