Polyurethanes for hot melt adhesives : Desmomelt®

When substrates that can withstand higher temperatures need to be bonded, hot melt adhesives are an ideal solution. They are solvent-free, and there is no need for a drying or curing step. Additionally, they are applied using common methods and show a long shelf life.

Desmomelt® polyurethanes from Covestro have been specifically designed for the formulation of nonsolvent, high-performance hot melt adhesives.

Offered as granules or powders, Desmomelt® products are fast-crystallizing, high molecular weight thermoplastic polyurethanes terminated with hydroxyl groups.

Adhesives based on Desmomelt® polyurethanes can be formulated as free films or applied via scatter coating. They have excellent adhesion and resistance properties. They are ideally suited for applications in the textile, footwear, automotive and furniture industries.

Particular applications of adhesives based on Desmomelt® polyurethanes include lamination of leather and fabric (technical textiles) and the bonding-in of shoe caps.
