The Nixus extensometer measures deformations in composite materials.
It is designed to be mounted on the material surface or embedded during the fabrication.
The sensor translates strain into a length variation of the sensing zone of the optical fibre also called the measurement basis.
The length of this basis can be chosen from a few tenth of centimetres up to several metres, in order to observe phenomena at the structure size.
Several sensing zones can be put in sequence along a single fibre, enabling simultaneous strain measurements in several areas.
The sensor can appear as a bare fibre, for embedding into the material during the fabrication (Nixus Fibre), or as a tape for surface mounting (Nixus Tape).
The sensors are linked to the Nixus reading unit by a fibre with a reinforced sheath, whose length can be whatever which is needed.
Robust and accurate thanks to its fibre optic technology, the Nixus extensometer is easy to install as no pre-tension nor calibration are needed.
The flexibility enables curved shapes measurements.
