The middle infrared is defined for the wavelength range between 1400 and 3000 nm. Starting from 2000 nm (corresponds to 2 µm) where quartz begins to absorb strongly. Differently doped glass fibers, hollow, polycrystallines or crystalline wave guides are applied in the middle up to the far infrared.
