High-performance computing (HPC) applications are among today's most demanding application environments. By their very nature, they tend to be large in scope, consuming, processing, and producing huge amounts of information. Since these application environments are key to corporate operations such as transaction processing and data warehousing, their performance is directly related to the success of the business.
Cisco has formed an innovative partnership with leading HPC middleware vendors to create a tighter coupling between the network and these vendors' software stacks. An outcome of this collaboration, Cisco RAB (RDMA Accelerated Buffer), can significantly reduce latency in the network stack without requiring changes to applications to deliver accelerated application performance for business-critical operations.
Cisco RAB is currently available for Linux 2.6 environments on x86 servers with 10 Gigabit Ethernet network links.
