Finned tube heat exchangers can be manufactured from numerous materials such as steel, stainless steel, aluminium and other special materials. Plain tube heat exchangers are mainly used where the fluid around the tubes is so heavily contaminated that finned tubes can no longer be used. Steel and stainless steel designs as well as a hairpin construction are also possible. An aerodynamically favourable core tube offers approx. 3 to 10 times less hydraulic friction compared to a round tube, resulting in significantly lower pressure loss and better heat transfer. Good corrosion protection is achieved by hot-dip galvanising, which also ensures an optimum metal connection between the core tube and fin. A high heat transfer coefficient is achieved through a small heat exchanger surface.
