The operating method used by APLAST is the combination of two traditional types of plastic transformations: extrusion and thermo-compression. This operating process is called extrusion compression. The originality of this operating process enables the plasticized material to be introduced into a temperaturecontrolled tool throughout the molding cycle. This dynamic process avoids sudden temperature variations, enabling it to deliver a uniform material structure and to minimize the stresses associated with molding.

Preparation

Material preparation is the first step in manufacturing a thermo-plastic semi-finished product. The care taken at this stage is a determining factor in the rest of the manufacturing process. Hygroscopic materials require drying in a desiccator in order to eliminate moisture contained in the granules. Prepared in this way, the raw material is ready to enter the transformation cycle.

Transformation cycle

The process consists of introducing the plastic into a temperature-controlled tool using an extruder and then continuing molding of the semi-finished product by compression while controlling the following 3 parameters: Time, Temperature and Pressure.

Finishing

The final operation consists of performing heat treatment in a fan-assisted oven in order to eliminate all residual stresses associated with molding. Semi-finished products are oven-stabilized using a predefined thermal cycle based on the material and thickness of the semi-finished product. All our products are stabilized, without exception. This enables us to eliminate all residual stresses associated with molding and to improve dimensional stability during machining and over time.
